Testing… testing…

So I’ve never done the blog thing before and I’m not sure anyone will read this. Why would you? I mean, you’ve probably got better things to be doing with your time.

But if you are reading this, I might as well write something interesting.

It’s 9:00 on Sunday night and I’m alone in my attic room in Columbia, MO (MO is for Missouri, in case that looks foreign to you).

I’m writing this blog posting because I’m procrastinating from writing a paper and reading Empirical Political Analysis. I’m a little jittery from coffee and my head is just swimming with ideas from all of the stuff I’ve been thinking about recently.

Here’s a little download / insight into my daydreams:
- cooperation - http://cooperation.smartmobs.com/cs/
- web 2.0 - http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/oreilly/tim/news/2005/09/30/what-is-web-20.html
- open source - http://www.opensource.org/docs/definition.php
- John Rawls - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Rawls
- participatory budgeting - http://hq.unhabitat.org/cdrom/TRANSPARENCY/html/2d_7.html
- environmental governance - google it
- lots of other stuff…

I’ve also been setting goals for myself for this year. Maybe if I post them here, I can have the benefit of my friend(ster)s getting on my case if I’m off track..

Goals for 2006:
1) Meditate, exercise, and cook regularly.
2) Pay off my debts.
3) Research and write about participatory process design and relevant theory in the process of completing my bachelors.
4) Design and produce several participatory sustainable development projects in my work with AmericaSpeaks.
5) Apply to several stellar grad programs.

Ok, so I’m a geek. Any of you that know me will not be surprised by this. Your thoughts and support on these would be appreciated.

Enough procrastination… back to reading Empirical Political Analysis…

In fact, there are other people in the world, likewise putting off homework.

If you’re interested in free (as in freedom of speech) software then you should also check out Richard M. Stallman’s webpage; he’s the man who coined the term and started it all. http://www.stallman.org/ He’s also a crazy liberal radical guy with fundamentalist ideas about software, which makes him an interesting read. You should also check out the blog of a one, Benjamin Mako Hill, free software activist, debian maintainer, and MIT Media Labs dweller extraordinaire…he’s my idol among other things. http://mako.cc/copyrighteous/

Also, I meant to go to your going away party in DC and it totally slipped my mind. Then, 3 days later I remembered and I was distraught. So…next time you’re in DC, let me take you out to the Brickskeller and buy you a beer.

Hope you’re doing well in MO,

    Forest

ps: I’m envious…I’ve always wanted to live in an attic. ;-)

You, there! Read your Empirical Political Analysis.
Now that I’ve said that, I can’t feel guilty for putting comments on here that you’ll be reading later rather than Empirical Political Analysis. I, too, like attics. My parents’ preferred a renovated basement, so I’ll live vicariously through you. Do you write in code up there? Miss you terribly! Love, L

    blog away mr. paul…

It could be that I, too, am quite a nerd, but your Empirical Political Analysis sounds pretty interesting… I have to take Business Enterprises and Professional Responsibility this semester, and I’d gladly take a little Empirical Political Analysis over the two of them anyday. my only other class is pretty good though, land use planning… interesting stuff those zoning ordinances, planning agencies, and brownfield redevelopments…

Again, quite the nerd, i know…

Anyway, law school is almost over for me, so that means you, Evan, must be nearing the end of the road on your end. I noticed you are looking at grad programs, and I became curious… in what, exactly, does Evan want to study?

anyway, keep blogging away, procrastination is the mother of invention (at least i think that’s how the quote goes… no? alright whatever) blogs are fun, although mine is kind of a downer recently, as I have been pretty pissed about climate change recently… anyway, top of the morning to you there in MO, and we’ll see you later!!

    take care,
    -r
