Climate change

So apparently, there’s no PAC (Political Action Committee) dedicated to getting candidates that support a sane energy/climate policy elected to office. There are several enviro PACs, but the candidate would have to agree with you on all sorts of other issues and being labeled a tree hugger could get you killed in many districts.

Anyone want to create one with me? Know any wealthy donors and/or a web programmer that would donate their time?

While I’ve been focused on this issue for quite a while, this ABC story helped to crystalize it for me - http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/StateOfTheUnion/story?id=1565837.

    dude, I’m in…

the wealthy donors would be difficult to find initially, but it seems like we could take two tacks (that don’t necessarily have to be mutually exclusive)… one, try to build up lots of smaller donors via a web site strategy (a la MoveOnPAC, etc.); and/or two, get a couple of big names from LA or NY or DC and start generating a buzz amongst the glitterati and upper classes

I know only one person who has worked in web design here at school, and given the importance of “the internets” (as Herr Bush like to call it) to any endeavour nowadays, that would seem to be a need that should be filled quickly too… I wonder if we could simply create another blog on Blogger.com or something to begin with. hmmm….

I am taking business enterprises at the moment, which is all about partnerships, LLC’s, LLP’s, etc., but have already taken election law, so i will try to figure out some of the necessary steps for filing the proper paperwork, etc.

anyway, perhaps we should chat about this sometime soon… I am out of town this weekend, but maybe next week?

Evan, as usual, you’re dead on here. I think it’s a fantastic idea. Brilliant. It’s certainly my number one concern.

Evan - you should check out Solar PAC; I also think the Wind Industry has a PAC. There are major fixed costs that go along with PACs that make it difficult to give significant contributions unless you’re brining in more than $1 million per election cycle. Plus, I think LCV and Sierra Club’s PAC do a great job addressing these issues and have the lobbyists, lawyers, and field activists to back them up.

    Glenn-

    Then why aren’t they winning?
